Why Choose Us Page
This page is intended to help you in making a choice of who to hire for
your upcoming project. Selection of the right people to work with will make everything run smoothly during
the project. Affordable Deck and Building Company offers these helpful tips and advantages for why you should
choose us:
Does the contractor know what they are talking about?
This is what Affordable Deck and Building Company has a great deal of pride in. Materials, lumber grades,
maintenance-free products, construction, loads, spans, fastening systems, and everything else.
In addition, Affordable Deck and Building Company does the following:
- We offer all cedar or the much less maintenance aluminum balusters for the same price.
- We've been working with Trex (www.trex.com) for
quite a while now and recommend it for many customers. We offer many versions of Trex accents with the real looking
wood grain. We'll show you many pictures and examples to choose from.
- We hand pick all cedar and pressure treated wood before installation. Ask your
contractor this before you hire them! Taking the time to use the right materials makes a big difference.
Workmanship
Affordable Deck will do a job right! Whether we are doing a small or large
job, you can be sure that you are going to have a reliable product when we are finished.
Affordable Deck and Building Company does the following:
- Mitered corners, not butted up corners like many people do.
- All decks have oversized beams and joists. So go ahead, invite everyone
when you entertain and don't worry about overloading a structure that we build. We double up 2x12's for beams
and use 2x10's for floor joists typically.
- All railings and decking are screwed down and not shot nailed like
others like to do because it is faster. Screws take longer, but are much stronger and give a much better finish - and
that is what is important to us.
- All footings are oversized on the bottom to prevent any possibility of
heaving. Most contractors don't do this! There is no chance of upward movement of the footing when this is done,
so we do it for all of our deck footings. Building code doesn't typically require this, so most don't do it - we only
do it this way.
- We only build stairways with 4 stringers. Our staircases look the best and
are very solid. It costs us more to build it this way and we are still competitive with contractors who use techniques
that are much cheaper.
Ask for references
Talk with some of the contractor's former customers.
They can help you decide if a particular contractor is right for you.
Ask these questions when you speak with a reference:
- Can I visit your home to see the completed job?
- Were you satisfied with the project? Was it completed on time?
- Did the contractor keep you informed about the status of the project,
and any problems along the way?
- Were there unexpected costs? If so, what were they?
- Did workers show up on time? Did they clean up daily and after finishing the job?
- Are you pleased with the quality of work?
- Could you communicate well with the contractor?
- Did the company fulfill their contract?
- Would you use the contractor again and recommend him?
Do you feel comfortable with and trust the person you are about to hire?
This is the most important question to ask of yourself. Your answer to that question
should make the hiring decision a little easier. Professionals will be more likely to finish your job in a timely
manner. You will find that Affordable Deck and Building Company is professional and does what they say they are going
to do.
